Take a moment to reflect on your inquiry plan (calendar). Do you need to make any revisions to your original plan? If so, why? If you haven’t made any changes to your plan, why do you feel you have been so successful in sticking to it?
During the school days, I sometimes felt overloaded with my other homework so having to finish zip in 3 weeks was a bit of a challenge. I felt myself focusing more on homework that was imminent, such as small assignments that were due the next day, instead of this long term project. I was really glad when Mr. Morris informed the class that it would be extended to after the holiday, because this meant that I would have some time to organize my research wisely and put more effort into zip.
This is my new revised plan:
|December 3rd||Zip project starts|
|December 8th||Zip proposal finished|
|December 18th||Basic research completed|
|December 20th||Specific research orientated for presentation completed|
|December 21st – 23rd||Start drawing/making infographic (2 posterboards)|
|December 24th – 31st||Holiday = No Zip|
|January 1st – 2nd||Fine copy of infographic completed|
|January 3rd||Presentation outline + script for video|
|January 6th||Film video + video voice overs (w/ Nathan)|
|January 8th – 11th||Edit zip presentation|
|January 12th||Zip due|
My biggest change was lengthening my research days from 5 days to 12 days. This was because before I started my project, I limited myself to medical terminology, thus limiting the amount of information as well. However, opening my research topic to ‘the influence the ancient Greeks and Latins have on modern English’ allowed me to research more indepthly and gather information from more sources. I also found that because my zip is research orientated, I needed to balance my schedule between researching and execution and plan some more time for gathering notes. In all, I have about 10 pages of notes back to back and I organized them into categories that I will use to present and have started my good copy infographic.
Nathan volunteered to help me film because this is my first time filming a whiteboard style presentation so I will finish that over the holidays as well.
I did leave myself a no-work period between the 24th and the 31st so that I enjoyed the holidays with my family!
